This page provides instructions for downloading and installing the Free Trial Version of Datasqueeze for Macintosh. You may run this version for up to ten days before purchasing a registered version. If, after downloading and running the trial version, you decide you want a upgrade to the full-featured registered version, please
purchase the access key-this is all you will need to make the upgrade.
Datasqueeze is also available for Linux,
Windows, or
Unix-like operating systems..
- A Macintosh running at at least 300 MHz.
- A color monitor display resolution of at least 1024 x 768.
- Mac OS 10.4 or above.
- At least 60 MB of available memory.
- 10 MB of free disk space.
- Java 1.4.1 or above (how can I check?).
- It is possible that you will need to be "administrator" for some
parts of this.
- Click here to download the installation package.
- A file will appear on your desktop (or
whatever the standard location is for downloads by your browser).
At this point there are several possibilities for what you will get, depending on
the vintage of your operating system.
- With most browsers,
the disk image ds_installation.dmg will appear on your desk top. Double-click on
ds_installation.dmg to mount the disk image. You will see a
folder (directory) called ds_installation.
- If you have an older operating system or browser, you might get a file called ds_installation.dmg.bin. If so, you need to
uncompress it using an application like Stuffit.
Uncompressing the file will produce a disk image called ds_installation.dmg.
- From inside the ds_installation folder,
drag the datasqueeze.app file (should look like an icon of
two hands squeezing an orange) to the Applications folder on your main
hard drive (probably called Macintosh HD).
- Create aliases anywhere you want with the "Apple-L" keystroke or
by dragging the icon to the Launcher.
- Drag the pdf manual and the folder containing sample files wherever you want--a
default location could be the Applications folder.
- To start Datasqueeze, double-click on the icon wherever it might be located.
If the icon is not visible,
you should be able to find it in the Applications
folder.
- An onboard help menu provides additional instructions--new users are strongly
urged to read through the help file, which includes a short tutorial, before using the
program. Additionally, a complete manual
in pdf format will be found in the program files folder (see
contents).
- When you first run, you
will be asked to enter an access code and to agree to some legal stuff.
If you do not have an access code, you can run the Trial version, which will run for up to ten days.
If, after downloading and running the trial version, you decide you want to upgrade to the full-featured registered version, please
purchase the access key-this is all you will need to make the upgrade.
- When the installation is completed you can drag ds_installation.dmg , the disk image, and the ds_installation folder (if they all still exist) to the Trash.
- If things do not initially work as you expect, check out our
FAQ page or contact us.
When you look inside the Applications->dataqueeze_files folder you should
see the following items:
- A file called datasqueeze_manual.pdf. This is the Manual
--you could copy it
anywhere convenient or print it out if you wanted.
- A folder called Samples. Within it are:
- Files called agbe_calib.unw and sample.unw. These are "typical" Bruker-Siemens
data files for you to play with.
- A file called agbe.std. This is a typical Bruker calibration file, for silver beheneate,
which you could also use as a template.
- The Java Platform is bundled with
the OS-X operating system. So you should not need to install Java unless you are running an
older version of OSX and have not kept up with updates.
- You do need to have at least version 1.4.1 loaded. To download the most recent version of
Java for Mac, point your browser to
http://support.apple.com/downloads/#java and look for the most recent release for your operating system.
-
To determine what version of Java your Mac is running:
- Go to the Applications-Utilities folder and double-click on Terminal.
- Type java -version (CR)
- You should see something like
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.4.1_01-99)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.4.1_01-27, mixed mode)
which tells you the current version.
